Based on Sharon Strand Ellison’s book Taking the War Out of Our Words: The Art of Powerful Non-Defensive Communication, this workshop aims to help participants consciously implement a non-defensive approach to working through conflict at work, at home and in our everyday interactions with others. For all conflict resolution practitioners, these tools will support us as we help others communicate effectively through the conflicts that have brought them to seek our assistance.

Carrie Kaas is a professor at Quinnipiac University School of Law and the co-director of the QUSL Center on Dispute Resolution. Kaas has served on the national Clinical Legal Education Association, the Connecticut Bar Association Standing Committee on Professionalism, and the Chief Justice's Commission on Civil ADR in the Courts. She is on the board of the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce, and is a founding member of the Connecticut Mediation Network. Kass studies, practices, and trains others in non-defensive communication and its application in law and mediation, and is a founding board member of the international non-profit, "The Non-Defensive Voice."

Sharon Strand Ellison, the author of Taking the War Out of Our Words, is a pioneer in the field of eliminating defensiveness. An international communication consultant and award-winning speaker, Sharon is dedicated to the belief that learning to communicate with non-defensive power is a crucial key to our capacity for solving the majority of problems we face at every level undefined home, work, and community.
