As a result of the shift in focus of the treatment and long-term care of individuals with mental illness, more and more people are living independently in the community.
While this shift is crucial to improving the quality of life of people living with mental illness, it presents a unique set of challenges for providers and professionals working outside the mental health field. This daylong training will provide an overview of the diagnostic criteria, typical symptoms, and common presentations of some of the most frequently diagnosed mental illnesses. Tools and instructions on how to work effectively with this population will also be discussed, as well as practical ways to safeguard our own personal and professional well-being.
