As the old saying goes, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” This workshop focuses on the many benefits of thoughtful, meticulous preparation for dialogue by both participants and facilitators. Effective preparation helps participants engage more deeply with others on subjects about which they feel passionately (and differently). Through preparation, participants can learn to avoid binary, “either-or” frameworks, re-center their thinking and feeling, reflect more deeply on the origin of their own beliefs, and entertain curiosity about the beliefs of others. Further features of preparation include building trust with participants, shaping meeting designs, and “grounding” facilitators so that they can be more helpful to participants. Workshop attendees will explore all these and more with structured exercises, discussion and practice.

Learn:
-How to minimize participants’ reactivity
-How to promote participants’ reflection and bringing their “best selves” to the conversation
-How facilitators can gain greater clarity, clearer perspective and deeper understanding before stepping into the room

Develop:
-Greater transparency and comfort when facilitating challenging conversations
-Greater clarity around the role of facilitator
-Increased awareness of personal triggers and strategies for avoiding them

Experience:
-Exercises that promote clarity of role
-Discussions that deepen understanding of the value of participation for both facilitator and participants

Pricing:
Regular fee = $150
Bring a friend discount (20% off each registration) = $120
Early Bird Special = $125
